Recently, I had the opportunity to attend the Art of Influence Workshop conducted by Johnny Wimbrey of Success University. So would just like to share some comments regarding it.
Now it’s obvious how important mastering the art of persuasion is. The power of persuasion can be seen as the ultimate source of advantage in life and work. And it can be the critical separation factor between the successful and the rest.
Think about it. In life, we’re constantly trying to persuade or influence others. Be it during the job interview, presentation to your boss to accept your proposal, or during a marriage proposal, there are many instances where persuasion takes place. And for internet marketing, it’s manifested in your sales copy and email promotions. Frankly, copywriting is the art of persuasive writing.
Hence, by mastering the art of influence will help you to get others to agree with your ideas and take the actions you want them to take. Certainly, the advantages are limitless as it could mean anything from clinching the million dollar business deals or getting your dream girl.
With that being said, how does one master the Art of Influence?
The good news is, influence and persuasion can be learned and mastered. Which is what I’m going to share after having the privilege of attending the Art of Influence workshop conducted by one of the best motivational speakers in the world, Johnny Wimbrey.
The first thing you should ask yourself when it comes to influencing others and becoming a great leader is, ‘Would you follow yourself?’ If you wouldn’t follow yourself then how do you expect others to?
There are a couple of things to look at and evaluate yourself as a leader.
Firstly, your emotions. As an influencer, you cannot crack under pressure and your emotions need to be under control.
Secondly, your energy level. You are expected to be full of energy and not let others suck the enrgy out of you.
Lastly, the words you use. You should always be careful with the words you use and use them wisely and to your advantage.
Many leaders also make the mistake of secluding themselves from others. However, as a good leader, you need to have relationships. Below list some steps to create healthy relationships:
- Listen
- Slow down when walking by others to give them a chance to talk to you
- Show to others that you care about their needs and problems
- Always offer help to others
Shall take some time to stress the importance of being a good listener. Powerful persuasion begins with the ability to hear what others are saying. And listening is far more than being quiet when somebody else speaks. If carried out effectively, it creates and improves personal and business relationships. In any situation in life, effective listening will help you to understand another person’s thoughs, feelings and actions.
You need to first understand a person and build rapport before you can have influence over someone. Contrary to popular belief, being a master of influence does not just require good speaking skills. Developing good listening skills is equally vital.
Good listening skills?? Isn’t that easy you might ask. You just have to sit there and listen.
Now there’s a difference between active and passive listening. Passive listening is characterized by just sitting and hearing. However, active listening requires you to remove all distractions from your mind so you can concentrate on the speaker.
If you’re not interested in what others have to say, chances are they won’t either!
Remember:
People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.
It’s just like building a relationship with your list in internet marketing. If it’s all about you that you emphasize and care about, people simply won’t bother about you.
More tips on being a good listener:
- Don’t interrupt others while they are speaking
- Don’t finish the other person’s sentences.
- Don’t offer your advice too soon.
- Show your attentiveness by nodding occassionally
- Paraphrase people’s sentences to show your understanding of what they are talking about
Oops.. Realized that this post most is mostly about being a good listener. But as mentioned earlier, powerful persuasion BEGINS with the ability to hear what others are saying. So it’s always important to start from the basics.
To end off this post, shall leave another useful nugget. An influential person will recognize their faults and not be afraid to show them as this makes them approachabel and real to others. This sense of approachablity will draw people to you because they believe they can talk to you without you judging them.

With the proliferation of the Internet and the increasing advancement of technology, our lives are increasingly becoming highly dependent on Info-Communication Technologies(ICT). One of the modules I’m taking at the moment, New Media & Society, discusses this extensively. And the school project I’m working on also relates to this topic as we seek to find out ‘How Dependent Are We On The Internet’ nowadays.
I think the answers should be obvious even before we conclude our report. The Internet has changed the way we communicate, do work, source for information, conduct business, obtain education, make friends… and the list goes on… Relationships are being forged on the Internet today, many of which are even more solid than those being forged in the offline world.
Will there be a limit to the ever increasing dependence on the internet? I doubt so..
Interestingly, the guys over at Shutdown Day have declared March 24 Saturday, to be the official Shutdown Day. It’s aim?
To find out how many people can cope without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if everyone takes part in this experiment.
The thought of it scares me.. I log on to the Internet even during lectures and tutorials. The moment I reach home, I switch on my computer.
So will I ever survive?? Only time will tell.. Meanwhile, my friends over at the Creativity Club have came up with ‘7 Things To Prepare For Shutdown Day’. It should help you to better cope with such a tragic day.. Oops..
As for myself, it’s time to think of how I should restrain myself on that day.. Well I can easily spend the entire day with my darling Patricia.. There are tons of things I could do with her..
For instance, we could watch DVDs on my laptop, or play games on the computer, or better still set up our websites……….. You get the picture…

This weekend was absolutely phenomenal. The amount of knowledge that Patricia and I learnt was truly overwhelming. Well, due to a very unique & rare opportunity, we managed to catch Johnny Wimbrey & Matt Morris in Singapore and in person! And for free.. (the tickets cost $85 each by the way)

Many of those who have downloaded our ‘7 Ways To Earn Money Online’ eBook previously have emailed me saying that they are absolutely clueless regarding how they should start.
Now I understand that the most difficult step is the first. But I believe that in my eBook, I’ve clearly laid out the steps you should go about. The first thing you should do is to listen to the audio CD we’ve included in our package.
You’ve got to first establish your driving factor - that is know why do you want to earn money online. You may not be aware, but the reasons to doing something rates much stronger than the methods you use to get the job done.

Now some of you may be clueless as to what you can sell online. Do not worry too much about that as you should first start by identifying your passions and interests.

In the book “Multiple Streams of Income” by Robert Allen, he detailed 50 Ways on how everyone can save $50 a month. I found it really useful. Well, I’ve come up with my very own 15 ways to save $50 a month. So hope it will benefit you too.
1. Always plan your finances ahead. Plan a budget for the month and stick to it.
2. Watch Movies on Weekdays.
3. Use a piggy bank and deposit all your spare change. Do not underestimate the power of multiplication. Over time, your coins are going to convert into huge amounts,
4. Always ask for a discount. There’s no harm trying.
5. Stop before you buy anything and ask yourself this question ‘Do I really need this?’
6. Always buy during the season sales.
7. Take a shower instead of a bath.
8. Delayed Gratification! Before you splurge on those branded goods, consider delaying it and put your money to better use.
9. Instead of spending $30 for a meal at restaurants, why not save the money and cook a meal at home. Not only will you save money, its much healthier too.
10. Do not buy branded goods.
11. Buy airline tickets in advance.
12. Pay yourself first, set aside a dollar a day.
13. Always scan through all receipts. Cashiers are humans too and they make mistakes.
14. Off the aircon and use the fan. Aircon makes your skin dry anyway.
15. Lastly, invest your money wisely. Do not spend all your money away for the month.

The secret of the wealthy is not that they have more money but that they have more time freedom. Because many of their streams are residual, they have more time to spend on anything they want.
So what’s all this comparison between linear and residual income? Income that is paid once for every hour you work is linear. Hence, income from a salary is linear. You only get paid once for your effort.
However, with residual income, you work hard once and it unleashes a steady flow of income for months and even years. You get paid over and over again for the same effort. You get paid while you’re sleeping, while you’re watching a movie, 24 hours a day.
Now doesn’t that idea sound nice to you?
So what are the various forms of residual streams of income?
Here’s a list of the many types of residual income you might want to explore:
1. Savers earn interest
2. Songwriters earn royalties on their songs
3. Authors earn royalties from their books.
4. Insurance agents get recurring commissions from their sales
5. Investors get dividends and interest from their stock.
6. Game designors and software creators get royalties.
7. Entrepreneurs get business profits.
There are tons of other forms of residual income that you can tap in. Question is: ‘How many of them do you already possess?”
If not, how much effort are you willing to put the effort to achieve them? Now personally, I feel that the Internet provides numerous opportunities for us to create for ourselves residual income streams. Thus, that shall be my main focus for the time being.

I shall now continue from where I left off from the previous post. Many may not realize, but money is one of the most important subjects to study in your entire life. Some of life’s greatest enjoyments and most of life’s greatest disappointments stem from the decisions you make about money. Whether you experience great peace of mind or constant anxiety is dependent on the extent you get your finances under control. Similarly, your relationships can be affected by money decisions too. So many divorces have happened because of disagreements over money.
Hence, understanding how the game of money is played can be crucial to maintaining your success, relationships and happiness. Do not underestimate this skill, as it’s one thing which is severely lacking in most people today. They do not invest their money wisely and rely on only one stream of income.
As I mentioned in the previous post, it’s dangerous to do so. As much as people are skeptical about owning a business, there’s one thing that almost all of the wealthiest men in the world have in common. No, they do not work ten times harder. But simply ,they own a business. And most of them have multiple streams of income.
So the next question is, how do you go about building multiple streams of income? Firstly, you must differentiate between active and passive forms of income.
Active income is what most people are earning, whereby it requires you to actively work for it. If you were to stop working one day, you do not earn any income.
Passive income refers to income you will continue to receive even after you stop working. This could include interest, dividends, royalties and profits from a business. Hence, it is certainly the more lucrative form of income, and we should all focus on building passive form of income streams.
After reading Adam Khoo’s Secrets of Self-Made Millionaires, I discovered a relatively easy way of building a passive income stream in terms of setting an online business. Similarly, Robert Allen “Multiple Streams of Income” also list it as one of its “money mountains”.
One thing I found out after reading these two books was that many people have been quietly earning money from the comfort of their own homes. Determined to find out the truth, I spent 3 months and thousand over dollars researching on the various methods one can create income online.
Hence, I hope to share the various techniques one can employ to build for themselves multiple streams of online income. Be sure to stay tuned for more internet marketing tips!

If you have not read the book “Multiple Streams of Income” by Robert Allen, I suggest you go read it. It’s really a good book about the concept of wealth. Let me share with you something which is thought provoking and mentioned in the introduction of his book.
You see, most people will earn at least $25,000 a year. If you were to do the math, more than $1 million will flow through your fingers. Hence, the good news is, we’re all already on track to becoming a millionaires. But the question is, ‘why do so few people ever become a millionaire?’ Simply because most people end up spending almost that they’ve earned. And hence, most retire with little savings.
The reason can be attributed to the fact that nobody teaches us about money. In school, we’re forced to take several compulsory subjects. No doubt it helps in providing a more wholesome education. But we receive no formal education in the most critical of all life skills: how to become financially successful!
You see, it’s not about how much money you earn, but how well you’re able to manage your money that will determine your wealth. Yet, we weren’t taught how to manage money in school.
Chances are, we picked up these skills from our parents and people around us. Most people will teach you to study hard and get a good job. They will say things like investing is risky and running a business is risky. Don’t you think this greatly stifles the creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in people? As such, even when we’ve profitable ideas in our head, we are often deterred by these thoughts that keep ringing in our heads.
Here’s a shocking fact: Today, managers over the age of 45 are fast getting retrenched and many have failed to find employment thereafter. How would you feel if you were to place your wealth and future in others’ hands only to be informed that you just got retrenched. What are your loved ones and children going to do? Can’t possibly let them starve right? If you happen to have some savings, then you might still survive for a few months.
But the shocking thing is, most ppl do not even have savings to cover their expenses for three months. Not to mention if they have other streams of income.
On the other hand, how would you feel if you’ve built for yourself multiple streams of income. If one stream were to stop, you do not have to worry as you have other streams to depend on. Your spouse does not have to bear the extra burden and your children do not have to suffer.
Hence, this all points to the importance of building multiple streams of income for ourselves. If you do not think of yourself, at least think of your loved ones.
